Sarcoma Virtual Journal Club: Updates on the Treatment of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST)
Activity Description/ Purpose

Join the members of our Sarcoma Disease Site Work Group for an insightful journal club where important articles will be reviewed. This virtual journal club will focus on a series of phase III trial data on the use of second line treatments after imatinib progression in patients with advanced GIST, as well as outcomes after 3 versus 6 years of imatinib treatment for patients with high-risk GIST. Review of the articles ahead of time is recommended to get the most out of this session.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for all surgeons and other health care professionals who are involved in the treatment of patients with sarcoma cancer.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should gain strategies to:

  • Better counsel and treat patients after progression/intolerance to Imatinib, using Ripretinib or Sunitinib.
  • Educate and counsel patients on the role of continuing Imatinib beyond 3 years.
  • Better understand recent phase III trial data on the development of Imatinib resistance after treatment interruptions.

The Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation
