Virtual Tumor Board: Retroperitoneal Lymph Nodes (2024 OnDemand)
Activity Description/ Purpose
Metastatic retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy for colorectal cancer is primarily treated with systemic chemotherapy. Highly selected patients may benefit from operative retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, and/or may considered for ablative radiation treatment. In this Virtual Tumor Board, we will review these considerations through case-based presentations including a multi-disciplinary panel of surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for all surgeons and other health care professionals who are involved in the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  •  Recognize the distinction between regional colorectal cancer lymph node metastasis compared to retroperitoneal (non-regional metastasis) on imaging
  •  Understand  treatment considerations directed at Stage 4 colorectal cancer retroperitoneal lymph node disease, including systemic vs local strategies (operative resection; radiation)
  • Summarize the management for colorectal cancer metastatic to retroperitoneal lymph node(s) presenting at time of diagnosis (synchronous) or metachronously, including isolated nodal disease vs oligometastatic.

The Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation
