Virtual Tumor Board: Breast Disease and COVID-19
Activity Description
The virtual tumor board discussion will include:
  • Options for temporizing surgical intervention in the face of limitations on PPE and strategies to mitigate risk for patients whose surgery cannot be postponed.
  • Options for temporizing and adjusting medical management in the face of necessary surgical delays, including risks for administering systemic chemotherapy.
  • Radiation oncology strategies in the face of a pandemic.
 
The following cases will be discussed: 
  • Pre-menopausal patient with luminal T2N0 invasive ductal carcinoma, Nottingham grade 2, genetic testing negative. Candidate for breast conserving surgery. Procedures in your institution limited to emergency cases only.
  • Pre-menopausal patient with T2N1 triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma, Nottingham grade 3, BRCA1 gene mutation carrier. Completed planned systemic chemotherapy with imaging suggesting a pCR. Patient desires a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction. Procedures in your institution limited to emergency cases only.
 
The moderator for this virtual tumor board is Emilia Diego, MD, Magee Women's Hospital. Panelists include surgical oncologists, Kandace McGuire, MD, Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Kristalyn Gallagher, MD, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, medical oncologist, Rachel Jankowitz, MD, University of Pennsylvania and radiation oncologist, Austin Vargo, University of Pittsburgh.
