Topic 1: Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on Breast Cancer in the African American Community

This session will review data on disparities in the breast cancer burden of African Americans compared to White Americans, with a discussion of how Covid-19 has magnified the problem through the pandemic-related recession and the digital divide.

Participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the more advanced stage distribution of breast cancer in African American compared to White American women
  • Understand the impact of Covid-19 on breast cancer disparities mediated by disproportionate severity of the pandemic recession on African Americans
  • Understand the impact of Covid-19 on safety net hospitals and consequences related to delivery of cancer care
  • Acknowledge the role of the digital divide in telehealth and cancer disparities

Topic 2: Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on Cancer in the Asian American Community

This session will review data on variation in the gastric cancer burden of the Asian American community, with a discussion of how the Covid-19 pandemic has generated a spike in anti-Asian activities. 

Participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the diversity of the Asian American community
  • Understand differences in incidence and outcome from gastric cancer in Asian Americans with East Asian ancestry compared to White Americans
  • Acknowledge the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on inciting racist/anti-Asian activities
